Peace Building

Spiritual practice does not exist in a vacuum. Buddhist realization and psychological growth are both expressed in the particulars of daily living. Practice, study and service go hand in hand. Insight and compassionate activity arise together and make one another possible. As we awaken, we discover our intrinsic connection with the wider communities in which we co-exist: social, educational, political and ecological, among them. Meditation on the cushion and in the meditation hall, and emotional growth in the consulting room each find living expression in the world. Interdependence-in-action is the fruit of mature spiritual practice and psychological growth alike: What benefits me most deeply benefits the other as well. When the other awakens and flourishes, I grow and thrive. We’re in this together and we awaken in concert.

Deep Streams helps build cultures of peace, mutual respect, understanding and compassion, where the core values of Buddhism and psychotherapy take living shape in the wider commons. We work to embody these perennial values through our non-partisan and non-denominational service programs for returning veterans and their families. We partner with interfaith organizations, psychological associations, and community groups working to build cultures of peace and compassion in their respective communities and in the wider society.
